ライブドア、公衆無線ＬＡＮ参入へ・パワードコムと連携

ライブドアは去年の事業報告書の中にあった堀江社長の対談で、秋までにはスカイプが携帯型端末で使えるように無線LAN網を整備するという話をしていた。どのような形で実現するのかというのは今まで出てきてはいなかったが、このような形になったということだろう。
とりあえず今のところ、スカイプは収益モデルとしては一般電話との通話料金によって運営費用を賄うという形であるが、それはあくまでもスカイプ本社はほとんどソフトウェアを開発しているだけでありインフラを整備する必要が無かったからこそで、ライブドアがこの件に関してどのような収益モデルを考えているのかは割と不透明だ。
ライブドアの立ち位置として、国内におけるスカイプイン/スカイプアウトを担うことになっているのかどうかというのはわからないが、もはや携帯電話は通話の料金競争によってシェアが劇的に変動するフェーズは過ぎているような気もするので、どこまで普及するのかすら厳しい見方をせざるを得ない。ナンバーポータビリティが実現しても、携帯電話用の電話番号がIP電話で使えるはずもないのだし。
スカイプ内蔵端末については、どの事業者でも自由に作れることになっているはずで、端末の販売による収益を当てにするということもできない。
もしライブドアが余程計画的に事を運んでいるとするならば、自分の想像の範囲内で言うと、スカイプ、Linux、西京ライブドア銀行、そしてビットキャッシュ、ライブドアクレジット、もしくはネットラジオ、ライブドア証券などの材料がシナジー効果を起こす可能性があるのだが、正直言ってあのライブドアがそこまで考えている会社とも思えない。確かに堀江社長はこの件についてスカイプ自体に通貨みたいなものをやりとりできる仕組みを入れたら面白いとは言っていた。が、実際のところそれをライブドアがやろうとして出来ることでもないだろう。
結局のところよくわからない。市場でも特に好材料とも取られていないようだし。これを大きく報じていたのは日経新聞だけというのも微妙。というか提灯効果すら起きないというのも珍しいが。
