【PC】Origamiが購入可能になったようだが

ザウルスカラーが15万円した頃と比べると隔世の感があるが、なんつーかそんなに目新しいもののようには全然見えないのよね。
で、Microsoftが価格を抑えるために仕様を規定したことは一定の評価はしてもいいのかも知れないが、結局のところOS側が低解像度に最適化されたインターフェースを完備しているわけでもなく、やっぱりモバイルPCとしては物足りない、イライラするような代物に見える。
800x480ドットというと、初期のVAIO C1がそれに当たるが、実際に使ってみたらわかると思うが非常に表示できる情報量が限られ、スクロールも「サクサク」と言うにはほど遠いせいでイライラさせられる面があった。慣れればいいものではあったが。
それからかなりの年月が経って高解像度に慣らされた我々にとってWindowsを使うには明らかに辛い解像度に違いない。現状、こうしたガジェットでWindowsを快適に使いたいとなるとVAIO typeUであったり、LOOX Pであったり、FMV STYLISTICになるが、やはり価格が高いことがネックになる。
そうなると、やはりWindowsというのが最大の癌なんじゃないかという気がしてくるわけだ。
今時、携帯電話などは基本的にアンチエイリアスのかかった文字が当たり前に表示されていて、ポイント数が少なくてもきれいな文字を表示できる。WindowsではVISTAからそのようになるらしいが、本来、別にそれほど最先端の技術というわけでもないはずだ。
それで、詳しく書くとめんどくさいのですっ飛ばして書く。
例えば、Vodafoneの端末で640x480ドットの液晶を搭載した機種が出るが、当然、バックリベートを省いても600ドル程度で収まる。何故にUMPC、通称うんぽこがそれと同等以上のコストになっているかと言えば、Windowsとそのアプリケーションを動かすためのCPUやメモリ、ハードディスクドライブを収めなければいけないからだ。先にOSがあってそのためのハードウェアを作るからそうなる。
要するに、バランス感覚がおかしいデバイスなわけだ。快適さを求めようとすれば、CPUやメモリはUMPCほどは必要ないし、数10GBクラスのストレージも必要ないから、画面解像度を上げて、インターフェースを洗練させることこそが重要だろうと。そのバランスを誤ると、必要以上にコストがかかったり、コストのために快適さを損なうことになるということだ。
とりあえず、この機会にそのうちUMPCの中古品が市場にあふれ出したりしたら購入してみたいかな、とは思うが、今のところこれを買うのは割に合わないと思える。
