米国SONYの無線LAN通信端末「mylo」

またちょっとばかり極端に小さい端末が出てきたわけだけれども。
しかしこれ、見ようによっては初めてフル機能の携帯電話に置き換えられるIP通話端末と言えるんじゃないだろうか。以前から無線LANを利用した携帯電話型デバイスという話はずっとあったわけだけれど、実際にちゃんとここまで機能を備えて、このような大きさでまとめてきたものは無かったはずだ。
この液晶サイズ、この解像度ということはフルブラウザ端末としてやポータブルAV端末としてというのは本分ではなく、携帯電話的な扱いに属することになるだろう。
とはいえ音楽、動画再生機能は機能としては充実していて、インターネット端末としては無線LANを利用するものであるから通信量に対して通信費用は安く上がるし、恐らくレスポンスも携帯電話に比べて良いと思われる。
W-ZERO3[es]は無線LANを省いて通信機能はPHSのデータ通信を利用するという取捨選択だったが、逆のこちらのアプローチというのも賢い。下手にWindowsを組み込んだりオフィスソフト的なものを入れたりせずにシンプルにまとめた点で良いと思う。この価格であれば非常に魅力的なガジェットだ。
各社からこうしたアプローチの無線LAN端末が出てくれば屋外の無線LANインフラの拡大も加速するだろうし、歓迎すると同時に、早く日本でも発売されて欲しいと思う。
