ソフトバンクから携帯電話価格競争の仕掛けが始まったが
どうも中身を精査すると、「割安感を出す」ことに重点を置いていて、「割安にする」という明確なアプローチではないようだ。
確かに価格プランを見比べるとドコモ、au両社に比べて明確に低いと言える価格を提示してはいる。しかし、ここで端末価格をプラスして考えるとこの差は逆転するかも知れないということを考えなければならない。
ソフトバンクは初期費用を抑えるために端末代金を割賦にした。その一方で端末価格の割引率がドコモ、auなどと比べてかなり低くなってしまった。ドコモ、auなどの場合は実質的に利用料金に端末価格の大部分が含まれているが、ソフトバンクの場合はそうではないということだ。この差はかなり大きい。
ドコモ、auが値下げをした場合には即座に追随するというコミットメントを発表したが、その差額の210円は端末価格で帳消しどころか、完全に割高になると言って良い。事実上、「予想外割」だけが意味を持つというのはそういう面でも当たっている。
そして、「予想外割」には加入者間通話無料の「ゴールドプラン」が付随することを考えると、事実上の27ヶ月縛りである割賦払いと合わせて、一時的な需要を取り込んだ後は囲い込みと他社からの着信で稼ごうという意図が見える。
こう考えると実際のところトータルでソフトバンクが完全な値下げを行ったとは言い難い面がある。このことは冷静に判断しなければならないところだ。
おそらくソフトバンクは2年以内に料金体系、サービスを大きく変えるだろうと予想する。このままでは契約期間が終了したときに顧客の大きな流出が起こりうるからだ。その時までにソフトバンクが携帯電話サービスとリンクした自社コンテンツでの収入という大きな柱を構築できるかどうかが今後にかかってくるだろう。
